Getting Ready for Algebra provides lessons that focus on the California Mathematics Content Standards recommendations for the development of decimal numbers. Decimal numbers are introduced in grade 2, with the contextual meaning of decimal numbers and money being developed by the end of third grade. The important concept of decimal numbers as one way to represent fractional numbers is emphasized throughout the elementary grades. By the end of grade 6, the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of positive decimal numbers should be mastered. Throughout grade 7, students experience positive and negative decimal numbers. By the end of grade 7, students should know and be able to use multiple representations of numbers in context, including positive and negative decimal numbers. Getting Ready for Algebra contains 31 individual lessons covering decimal numbers and their operations at grade level standards from grades 4 through 7. Seven of these lessons cover decimal numbers and percents. These lessons focus on key decimal number concepts that are necessary for success in algebra. |
