The Achievement Gap Task Force is dedicated to eliminating the achievement gap among various populations of San Diego County students. The initial focus has been on student performance as measured by the mathematics portion of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). To meet its commitment, San Diego County's 42 superintendents and governing boards signed the CAHSEE Compact which consists of four major goals:
- Ensuring a qualified mathematics teacher for each student
- Providing a rigorous mathematics curriculum for each student
- Extending learning time for students who have not yet passed the mathematics portion of CAHSEE
- Disseminating results and best practices
